Films I'm Looking Forward To In February

Hi!

Always on the lookout for great upcoming films, this is the first instalment of my monthly series ‘Films I’m Looking Forward To’ (catchy title, I know) - a roundup of all the films coming out in the upcoming month that I’m looking forward to.

The film I think I’m most excited for is Early Man - made by the same people who are behind Wallace and Gromit, this new stop motion film looks like a potential contender for one of my top films of the year (so far at least). Set in the prehistoric era, Dug and his sidekick Hognob must work together to unite the tribes against the advancing Bronze Age in order to beat them at their own game and protect their home. Featuring the voices of Eddie Redmayne as Dug, Maisie Williams as Goona and Tom Hiddleston as the villain Lord Nooth, and a stellar crew including director Nick Park (Chicken Run, Wallace and Gromit: A Close Shave/Grand Day Out/Curse of the Ware-Rabbit/The Wrong Trousers) along with writers Mark Burton & Richard Starzak, I’m really optimistic that this is going to be another great addition to the franchise.

Based on the book by Beatrix Potter, this CGI live action film follows Peter Rabbit as he battles with his rival, Mr McGregor, in order to win the heart of his animal-loving next door neighbour Rose. With James Corden as the voice of Peter Rabbit, with other voices belonging to Daisy Ridley and Margot Robbie, the film promises to be a fun family film. Written and directed by Will Gluck, who has previously worked on films like Annie (2014), Easy A and Friends with Benefits, from what I can tell this is his first involvement with an animated film so it’ll be interesting to see how he adapts to the different challenges.

The newest release from Marvel, this is the debut film for the character, which is considered to be the first black superhero written into mainstream comics. The film focuses on the prince of African nation Wakanda, as he is bestowed with superpowers after taking the throne following his father's death. With Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, the cast includes the likes of Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia and Michael B Jordan as the villain Erik Killmonger. Directed by Ryan Coogler, who is relatively new to the scene having previously directed Creed, as well as some short films, I’m curious to see what he will do with a long awaited film like this.

Max and Annie (played by Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams) have a weekly couples games night which takes an exciting twist as Max’s brother Brooks (played by Kyle Chandler) organises a murder mystery party, before then getting kidnapped for real. Thinking this is all part of the game, the competitive couples then set out to find Brookes and complete the game. Directed by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley (both also did screenplay along with Mark Perez), they have previously worked on films such as Horrible Bosses, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Spiderman: Homecoming, if you’re looking for a good comedy in February this is the one for you.

Best Wishes
